Guess the Country by Shape is a free geography quiz where you identify countries from their outlines. Choose multiple-choice or typing mode, select a difficulty level, and practice the shapes you miss.
How many countries are included?
The quiz uses a 195-country set: the 193 United Nations member states, plus the Holy See (Vatican City) and the State of Palestine. Difficulty levels divide these countries into different playable groups.
Can I type the country name instead of choosing an answer?
Yes. Multiple Choice gives you four country names to choose from, while Type the Answer removes the choices and asks you to enter the country name yourself.
Are alternative country names accepted?
Yes. Typing mode recognizes selected common alternatives and abbreviations such as USA, UK, Czech Republic, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde, and East Timor. Ambiguous answers such as 'Congo' or 'Korea' require a more specific country name.
Are country outlines shown at the same real-world scale?
No. Each country outline is scaled individually to fit the quiz display so that small countries remain visible. The shape and proportions of each outline are preserved, but the displayed size is not intended to represent its land area relative to other countries.
How are the country outlines created?
Country outlines are based on Natural Earth 1:10m geographic vector data and displayed as self-hosted SVGs. Shapes preserve their geographic proportions and north-up orientation. Some very distant islands or territories may be simplified for quiz readability.
